In 1930, Richard Drew, a young 3M engineer, invented the first
waterproof, see-through, pressure-sensitive tape. The original use was
sealing cellophane food wrap for bakers, grocers and meat packers.
Shortly after that, heat sealing cellophange reduced the original use of
the new tape. However, Americans in a depressed economy discovered
they could use the tape to mend a wide variety of things, like torn pages
of books and documents, broken toys, ripped window shades, and even
dilapidated currency.
Today, 75 years later, Scotch® has a diversified range of tapes for many
different applications and continues to provide consumers with high
quality reliable tapes for the home, school and office.
